THE MICROBLADING HEALING PROCESS: WHAT TO EXPECT

While microblading has been around for about 25 years throughout Asia, it’s only recently become a growing trend here in America. It is a procedure where trained professionals implant pigment under the eyebrow skin with handheld tools, giving the client a fuller, natural looking brow. The results can last up to three years with regular six-month touch-ups.
While it is a form of tattooing, the use of manual tools as opposed to machines means that the pigment is not placed as deep within the skin. The results are semi-permanent and can offer superior results to using eyebrow cosmetic products for those who have sparse brows. Unlike cosmetics, microblading gives you semi-permanent results, allowing you to go without makeup if you wish, while still enjoying beautiful, full-looking eyebrows.
You shouldn’t use retinol, take aspirin or drink alcohol for one week before your microblading appointment. These substances are all blood thinners, which might make you bleed more during your treatment.
The procedure should take about two hours, and while you might expect to feel some discomfort, the pain should not be unbearable. Most aestheticians utilize numbing creams to help clients feel more comfortable.
The Healing Process
After your procedure is finished, the pigment might initially appear darker than it will ultimately look. It is important for you to take certain aftercare measures to help protect your healing eyebrows, such as avoiding washing your face or getting your brows wet in any way for the first few weeks.
Using petroleum jelly will protect the pigment over your eyebrows. You might experience redness in your brow area for about a week after your microblading treatment.
Some people report that their eyebrows itch while they are healing, and you might see some flaking or scabbing as well. This does not mean that the pigment is coming out. In most cases, it is simply part of the normal healing process.
If you think something has gone awry during the healing process, you will want to consult your doctor.
When your eyebrows are fully healed, you should expect them to be about 30 percent lighter than how they initially looked immediately after your treatment. The healing process should be completed within about 30 days. After that, you can enjoy great-looking eyebrows for about three years with routine touch-up appointments at six-month intervals.
There shouldn’t be any downtime, and you should be able to return to work immediately.
